What is HYDRO-SEEDING

Hydraulic Seeding is the spray application of a complete seeding mixture that includes the following components: Seed blend, fertilizer, lime, bonding mulch, and water.

We recommend 6 to 8 inches depth of organic topsoil for best hydro-seeding results.

General Hydraulic Seeding Mixture (per 45,000 square feet)

• - 4,000 gallons of water
• - 1,000 lbs of hydro mulch
• - 500 lbs of fertilizer, 12-30-10 Turf Starter
• - 165-220 lbs of seed, pending on seed variety applicable to project
• - Dolomitic limestone and tackifier will be used as required per site requirements

When is Hydraulic Seeding Preferred?

• - When seeding hard to reach areas! Hydro-seed can be sprayed long distances over surfaces not easily reached or less than ideal foundation for sod
• - When specific varieties of grass are required and are not available to purchase as turfgrass nursery sod
  • - A temporary grass cover is required. The green mulch used in hydro-seeding will give an immediate impression of a grass surface and ensure applicator applies an even seed distribution
• - When your landscaping budget demands a cheaper alternative to sod
• - Quality nursery sod is not available for purchase

Typically, hydraulic seeding can be applied May 1st to October 15th. You will achieve the best growth with the least weed infestation if performed in the fall. Later application dates may have varying degrees of germination success.

Minimum Square Footage Required for Residential Hydraulic Seeding

4,500 square feet is minimum property size required for hydro-seeding. From a budgetary standpoint, there are limited saving achieved as an alternative to sod when hydro-seeding residential properties less than 9,000 square feet.
