Our mission is to promote high standards in product quality, professional service and conduct. With new technology and innovaton we set the bar of the industry standard by growing and nurturing specialty seed blends to provide nursery sod to the consumer that is healthy, thick, lush, and green. In summer 2009 we are introducing a new advanced turf-type tall fescues, RTF® Sod. RTF® is a patented nursery sod product available exclusively in Nova Scotia at Musquodoboit Valley Quality Sod. RTF® characteristics includes green environmental benefits such as self-repairing lateral root stem, water saving and high endophyte content for greater tolerance to heat and insects. RTF® is available for delivery in addition to our popular best-selling MVQS Kentucky Blue Sod.
OUR BUSINESS PLAN
Our goal, our investment to the consumer — increase the availablity of our nursery sod in all corners of Nova Scotia that is healthy, thick, lush, and green. Musquodoboit Valley Quality Sod has invested in our production and distribution network, and are now servicing most home imrpovement and retail garden centres with MVQS Kentucky Blue Sod fresh from our local fields from the spring until the fall. Regions in Nova Scotia we are servicing include Yarmouth, Bridgwater, New Minas, Windsor, Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford, Lower Sackville, Eastern Shore, Truro, New Glasgow, Antigonish, Port Hawkesbury, Sydney, Glace Bay. HISTORY
Musquodoboit Valley Quality Sod (MVQS) is a member of a local family business referred to as the Granview Farms Ltd group of companies. Granview Farms Ltd began in 1966 as a resource base company made up predominately of livestock, lumber and facilities for conventional farming. Under the direction of Alan Streatch, President and CEO, Musquodoboit Valley Quality Sod (MVQS) has been in operation since 1978. We are currently producing 800 acres of nursery sod on a twenty-month cropping plan.
ABOUT OUR PRESIDENT AND CEO
Alan Streatch, President and CEO of the Granview (Farms Ltd) Group pioneered a family business rooted as a conventional dairy farm since 1966 to a full-fledged grower and supplier of premium nursery sod. In 1978 Musquodoboit Valley Quality Sod (MVQS) was introduced to the horticulture trade market for use by homeowners and professionals. MVQS is one of three companies that make-up the Granview (Farms Ltd) Group. A business graduate from Dalhousie University, Alan has continued to expand his education through industry short courses and speciality training events. Alan has a strong belief in improving the horticulture industry’s profile through organizational efforts in the region. Most recently, Alan played a critical role in the development of the Landscape Nova Scotia – Soil and Compost User Guide – for homeowners and trades people. Alan is also an active member and participant in the Canadian Nursery Association, Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture, Turf Producers International, and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

Musuqodoboit Valley Quality Sod is proud the be an active member of Turf Producers International (TPI), a worldwide organization committed to improved sod practises and enhancement of the environment. We are also an active member of local association that represents the horticulture industry and promotes standards of product quality — Landscaping Nova Scotia Horticulture Trades Assoication.
